ROUTE:
From the drop off point proceed down to the Ubib,
turn LEFT and follow the canyon for 20 minutes till you
reach the Gaubriver. Turn RIGHT and follow the
canyon for 40 minutes upstream till you hit the Rock
Pools.
At the Rock Pools (northern side, LEFT) arrows will lead
you up a steep incline (100 m). At the top turn LEFT and
follow the trail on top of the ridge where you will experience
great views.
After 25 minutes the trail heads down a ravine into Rotberg
Canyon. Turn RIGHT after 15 minutes walking you will arrive
at Rotberg Spring. On the north-western side (LEFT)
of the spring (last tree) the marked trail picks up again
leading you in a northerly direction towards the Rotstock
Mountains (90 minutes). A stretch of 800 m is characterized
by open spaces with white stones. Look out for pole markers
to guide you through this terrain.
At the end of this terrain you enter the Mountains again
and follow the ravines. When you reach the open valley
you will see side markers on your LEFT at a 45 degree
angle, which will lead you to the paintings.
To go back, start at the same point where you entered
the valley and backtrack. For the hikers who did not come
up that trail a reverse description.
This is a well marked trail which traverses rocky terrain
and small ravines. You will come to open spaces and white
stones (poles will guide you through this section) till
you enter rocky terrain again and decline into the Rotberg
canyon till you reach the spring again. This part of the
trail is 90 minutes.
From the spring head south. After 45 minutes you should
be at Rotberg/ Gaub intersection. Turn LEFT and
after 20 minutes turn RIGHT into the Ubib Canyon. Proceed
for 20 minutes until you reach the climb out point. Radio
for pick up.
